Thirst Quencher, Original Oil Painting on Linen Canvas.
Having taken a long time making a tentative approach to the waterhole the giraffe finally straddles to quench its thirst. This is a position of vulnerability, out in the open with head lowered to drink, prone to ambush from lions. However, there were several other giraffes strategically placed as sentries around the waterhole and surrounding bush. Etosha National Park, Namibia, is an excellent location to view wildlife at waterholes, especially at the end of the dry season when the game congregate towards the remaining water sources in this harsh and arid environment.
